DRESS CODE UPDATE:
Effective September 24, 2019

By Direction of Superintendent Marvin Connelly, Jr.:

1.  All Cumberland County Schools will make any necessary religious accommodations for any type of headgear or head coverings otherwise restricted or prohibited under existing individual school dress codes.  

2.  No student shall receive Out of School Suspension based solely upon violation of an existing individual school dress code.

Student Dress Code as stated in the 2019-2020 Student Handbook:
Dress and Grooming:
Students are expected to use good taste in choosing clothing so as not to present a health hazard, attract attention or interfere with the educational process. Any printed material on a student’s clothing must not be offensive or detract from the ongoing educational process and should be consistent with generally accepted standards of the school community. The administration reserves the right to determine when apparel/appearance is in good taste for school.

Based on updates from Gov. Cooper, health officials and other state organizations, including the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s decision to suspend interscholastic athletics, Cumberland County Schools will adhere to the following guidelines, beginning at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020:
  • All middle and high school athletic competitions are suspended until at least Monday, April 6, 2020. This includes all workouts, skill development, practices and contests (on or off campus).
  • In light of multiple co-curricular organizations canceling scheduled activities, all co-curricular competitions are suspended until at least Monday, April 6, 2020.
This decision comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared the coronavirus (COVID-19) a pandemic.
This guidance is subject to change based on updates from local and state health officials.
The dissemination of information about COVID-19 is evolving and the CDC continues to share new updates. We encourage staff and families to visit the CDC website for the most accurate and timely information about the virus. For more information, visit: www.cdc.gov/COVID19.

Try Outs for Fall Sports begin Wednesday, November 13, 2019 directly after school.  Students MUST have a current physical on file to participate.  All of the following must be completed in Arbiter Athlete HMMS Vikings Arbiter Athlete and approved by the school athletic department before any student can participate in athletics/practice.

-Gfeller Waller Concussion Form
-Eligibility and Authorization Statement
-Cumberland County Athletic Participation Form MS
-Parent Statement and Insurance
-Bullying, Hazing, Inappropriate Language

Note: Students cannot have failed more than two courses, must have a weighted 2.0 GPA or 70 average and not missed more than 13 days in the previous semester to participate.
